The Yates Community will observe the occasion exactly 150 years later. Jay Ungar and Molly Mason in Concert at Keuka College. Jay Ungar & Molly Mason are extraordinary musicians. If you didn't know it before, you sure did after Ken Burns' The Civil War hit the airwaves. Their performance of Jay's haunting composition Ashokan Farewell — the musical hallmark of the PBS series — earned the couple international acclaim. The soundtrack won a Grammy and Ashokan Farewell — originally inspired by Jay & Molly's annual fiddle and dance camps — was nominated for an Emmy.
Since joining forces in the late 1970s, Jay and Molly have become one of the most celebrated duos on the American acoustic music scene. With their comfortable sense of fun and their love of music, they make each concert a musical journey. Their incomparable warmth and wit — coupled with consummate musicianship — have delighted audiences worldwide.
Jay and Molly have garnered legions of fans through their appearances on Great Performances, A Prairie Home Companion, their own public radio specials, and work on film soundtracks such as Brother's Keeper, Legends of the Fall, and a host of Ken Burns documentaries.
If you love great American acoustic music, this concert is a must. Tickets are $25. To make a reservation, call the Yates County Genealogical & Historical Society at (315) 536-7318.

Dick will speak from his more than 30 years of experience as a newspaper reporter for the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle and later, for the Elmira Star-Gazette. Over the years Dick’s ‘beat’ brought him to Penn Yan and the Yates County area. In the midst of his more mundane reporting, Dick covered: the Penn Yan firehouse fire, the business block fire of 1967 and many Village changes. He covered the visits of dignitaries such as the Kennedys and Martin Luther King, Jr. His ‘on-the-scene’ reporting brought him to accidents, courts and murder trials; legislative, village, town, Keuka College meetings and school affairs. Dick covered the then emerging wine industry, county fairs, and the Mennonite migration into Yates County. We hope that you will join us for this exciting and informative presentation! The cost is $12.00 per person. Reservations required by Tuesday, May 11. |
